CADS Calgary operates a Learn to Ski and Snowboard Program for persons with disabilities. The program is dedicated to assisting individuals with a disability to lead richer and fuller lives through active participation in recreational and competitive skiing and snowboarding.
It is taught similar to the programs of Ski Schools that are located at most ski areas. The Program is registered with the Canadian Ski Instructor's Alliance (CSIA), Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI), and has many certified CSIA, CASI and CADS Instructors. The technique used to teach disabled persons is a modification of the CSIA or CASI Teaching Methodology.
Instructor Training & Certification is offered during the season. Clinics are operated weekly on Thursday evenings for the benefit of the volunteer instructors to help improve their skiing or snowboarding ability; as well as to learn tips on teaching and having fun.
Equipment: sit ski, quad ski, bi ski, sledges, walkers, out riggers, and specialized adaptive equipment like ski-bra, hoola hoop, harness, poles, radios
Disabilities: CP, paralysis, blind and visually impaired, developmentally delayed, mentally challenged, multiple disabilities, amputees, deaf
